Seamus McDonnell
1963 – 1984
Co-founder of the Dundalk Karate Club (1982)
It is with deep sorrow that we remember Seamus McDonnell, one of the founding spirits behind the Dundalk Karate Club, who passed away tragically in 1984 at just 21 years of age.
Seamus, along with Dan Connolly, helped lay the foundation for traditional martial arts training in Dundalk. A fierce fighter with a sharp mind and an open heart, he was known for his speed, his courage, and his unwavering loyalty to his friends and students.
He is fondly remembered by Sensei John O’Connor, who nicknamed him “Action Shots” for his dynamic movement and fearless commitment in the ring.
“He trained like every second mattered—and for him, maybe it did.”
– Sensei John O’Connor
Seamus was more than a martial artist. He was a friend, a brother on the mat, and a rising light extinguished far too soon.
Sadly missed by all who trained beside him.
Forever remembered in every kiai that echoes through the dojo.
Rest in Peace, Seamus.
